Venue: ICAR- Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur 208024

Theme

Winter season pulses (chickpea, lentil, Fieldpea, Rajmash and lathyrus) are known to be grown in almost entire country covering J&K in north to Tamilnadu and Kerala in south, and Gujarat in west to Arunachal in east contributing more than 65% to the pulses basket in India. To meet ever growing demand for pulses by agrarians there is need to establish good national and international linkages to harness synergies in area of research for development through judicious utilization of financial and fiscal resources besides available human resources so that self sufficiency in pulses can be achieved. In view of the strengthening collaborative R&D, changing agricultural scenario and increasing participation of private sector in crop improvement research in general, and pulses in particular, it has become inevitable to carry out research activities in collaborative manner involving centres working under aegis of All India Coordinated Research Projects, national and international partners to reduce duplication in efforts, that will save human and fiscal resources in generating more information and material. Accordingly, the national institutes should generate information on basic aspects of different pulse crops and share the breeding material and genetic resources with NARS partners in more purposeful manner. The inputs from International Institutes like ICRISAT and ICARDA with global research mandate will be of immense value in accelerating pulses improvement in terms of infusion of value added genetic resources in national crop improvement programmes. With this view, Division of Crop Improvement of ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research (ICAR-IIPR), Kanpur is organizing a two days Rabi Pulses Scientists’ Meet on 19-20 February 2016 at ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur to provide an opportunity to the breeders of AICRP centers to share breeding material and genetic resources. Further, the participation in Scientists’ Meet is by invitation only.
