Celebration of ‘World Soil Day’ on 5th December, 2023 at ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur

The ‘World Soil Day-2023’ with the theme “Soil and Water: A Source of Life” was organized by ICAR- Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur on 05.12.2023 in the auditorium hall at 2.00 PM. The Honourable Director, ICAR-IIPR, Dr G.P. Dixit, chaired the programme. Dr Ajay Kumar Yadav, Assistant Commissioner (Industry), Kanpur Nagar, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh was the Chief Guest of the programme. At the outset, Dr Narendra Kumar, Head (Division of Crop Production) welcomed the delegates, farmers and students and highlighted the importance of Soil Heath and ‘World Soil Day’. In his presentation, he highlighted the role of soil and water relationship in securing the quality foods for all the living entities on the earth, and messages of Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) for the World Soil Day-2023. This was followed by 10 min. documentary on soil health shared by council. Dr G.P. Dixit in his remarks sensitized the farmers on balanced nutrition to maintain soil health and importance of the day. The Chief Guest Dr. Ajay Kumar Yadav elaborately discussed on ‘Balanced fertilisation for maintaining soil health’. He also highlighted the different schemes of Government for benefits of the farmers. The programme ended with the formal vote of thanks to the Chair and dignitaries by Dr. Prasoon Verma. This program was attended by 150 Scientists and other staffs of ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur and its Regional Research Centre & Stations. The most importantly, programme was attended by 100 Farmers and 100 students (9-12 classes) who came from nearby districts of Kanpur and FPO’s members from Banda & Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. Md. Hashim, Senior Scientist (Agronomy) and Dr. Man Mohan Deo, Scientist (FMP).
