Contribution to the scientific advancement

  • Generated large-scale genomic SSRs, genic SSRs, Indels and SNPs markers and demonstrated the utility of these markers in genetic diversity, germplasm characterization, transferability, phylogenetics and high-density physical and QTL mapping studies for biotic and abiotic stresses in chickpea.
  • Developed Recombinant Inbreed Lines (RIL) population for fusarium wilt, salinity and seed size and nested association mapping (NAM) populations for traits mapping in chickpea.
  • We introgress “QTLs hotspot” in background of DCP 92-3 as recurrent parent through marker assisted backcross breeding and developed several improved MABC lines for enhance drought tolerance.
  • Phenotyped 3000 chickpea composite germplasm lines for 12 agronomic traits and became partners in re-sequencing of these lines in collaboration with ICRISAT, Hyderabad.
