Professional Information

Contribution to the scientific advancement

  • Developed 18 varieties of different pulse crops. The Share of these varieties is 64% in the national breeder seed chain.
  • As Project Coordinator (Chickpea), new research programmes initiated focusing on using integrated breeding approaches for the accelerated development of improved breeding materials with diverse desired traits such as high yield potential, improved tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses, resilience to climate change, labour saving, market-preferred grain traits and improved quality of produce; digital data capture, data management and breeding management system for modernization of breeding programs. Also, facilitated the release of 42 varieties of chickpea.
  • Associated with the developement of A Post emergence herbicide (Metribuzin) tolerant fieldpea line P-637 (IC 0241565) Registered by PGRC, ICAR/ NBPGR in 2019.
  • Associated with the development of a bilingual and farmers friendly Mobile App on Chickpea – “Chanamitra” for chickpea farmers.

Current area of research

Pulses Improvement with emphasis on rabi crops.
