Professional Information

Contribution to the scientific advancement

  • Developed 9 high yielding and disease resistant improved varieties (IPM 512-1 (Soorya), IPM 410-3 (Shikha), IPM 205-7 (Virat), IPM 02-14, IPM 02-3, IPM 312-20 (Vasudha) IPM 409-4 (Heera), IPM 2K14-9 (Varsha) and IPM 302-2 (Kanika),) of greengram. Among these, IPM 205-7 (Virat) is the world’s earliest maturing variety (52-55) and currently the top mungbean variety in national seed indent
  • Developed 3 improved varieties of rapeseed-mustard and 1 of facultative winter wheat.
  • Developed improved Pusa 256 lines of chickpea having resistance to Fusarium wilt race 2 through marker assisted breeding besides several pyramided lines in the background of Pusa 256 and JG 16 against Fusarium wilt disease.
  • Established wide hybridization garden in pulses with >250 accessions of Vigna belonging to 19 different species and undertook a large-scale pre-breeding and distant hybridization program in mungbean.
  • Developed bilingual smartphone application tool “Mung Advisor” for farmers”, a one stop digital solution o all queries related to mungbean cultivation.

Current area of research

Mungbean improvement through conventional and molecular tools, marker assisted breeding in chickpea.
