Shri. Sushil Rajput is a 24 years old young progressive farmer from Khadehi lodham village, Muskara block, Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh state. He annually cultivates 19 hectares, half of which is irrigated. He cultivates an array of crops including wheat, chickpea, field pea, lentil, mustard in rabi season and urdbean, mungbean and pigeon pea in kharif season. On his visit to institute during 2020-21, he showed his interest in cultivation of improved pigeon pea variety IPA 203. During 2021-22, he partnered demonstration of improved long duration pigeon pea variety IPA 203 in his fields with the recommended package of technologies for pigeon pea cultivation. He harvested 25 q/ha from his demonstration fields against 19.25 q/ha from local pigeon pea variety. Shri. Sushil Rajput has gained ₹ 1,37,500/ha from the demonstration fields against ₹ 1,05,875/ha from local varieties. Shri. Sushil Rajput is satisfied with the performance of the variety and plans for area expansion under the introduced improved pigeon pea variety in coming years.
Shri Kripa Shankar is a graduate progressive farmer from Faridpur village, Khajuha block of Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh state. He owns about 3 ha land and primarily cultivates paddy, potato, mustard, wheat and mung bean crops. He partnered the demonstrations conducted by ICARIIPR, Kanpur on spring mungbean cultivation on one hectare area after mustard crop, for which he was provided 25 kg of improved mung bean variety –IPM 410-3 (Shikha). He completed sowing of mungbean on 15 March 2022 and followed recommended irrigation schedule. For management of insect pest in the crop he followed two application of insecticide Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC (2 ml/10 Liter of water). He harvested his crop on 14th May 2022 and could achieve a yield of 17.5 q/ha from demonstration fields against 10.2 q/ha from local check. Shri Kripa Shankar could earn an incremental return of ₹ 43,800/ ha. The encouraging result of the demonstrations is expected to bring in additional area under the demonstrated variety in the coming years.
Shri. Arvind Verma, aged 35 years is a progressive farmer from Faridpur village, Khajuha block, Fatehpur districtof Uttar Pradesh. He cultivates about 6 hectares annually which is primarily irrigated. Paddy, wheat, potato, mustard, coriander, mungbean and urdbean are the major crops cultivated by him. Demonstration on spring mungbean during 2022 under Paddy-coriander- mungbean cropping sequence. He brought one hectare under demonstration of short duration improved mungbean variety IPM 205-7(Virat) and followed recommended production technologies. He completed sowing on 12th March 2022 after pre sowing irrigation. For management of spodoptera spp. in early crop growth stage, he sprayed chlorantraniliprolle 18.5 SC 2ml/10 Liter of water as per recommendations. In addition, two applications of insecticide Thaiamethoxam @ 2.5 g/10 l water were done. Shri Arvind could receive about 13.4 q/ha from the demonstration field in contrast to 10.5 q/ha from local mingbean variety. The yield advantage led to income enhancement of ₹ 1,74,000/ha.
