ARIS Cell
In 1996, the Institute got a major boost with the initiation of a computer-based network, Agricultural Research Information System (ARIS) by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) with a goal to strengthen information management system using modern information technology tools within the Indian NARS so that agriculture research becomes more efficient and effective. Since then the ARIS cell has been strengthened and updated in terms of infrastructure and presently well equipped to keep pace with the information explosion and Institute’s requirement. The major objectives are to develop and update the crop based databases, knowledge management and need based user-friendly softwares in addition to extend support in terms of experimental layout, data analysis and human resource development by way of imparting training on application softwares. The ARIS cell also administers the Local Area Network and updates the Institute website regularly.
Major Activities
- To develop efficient statistical design for varietal as well as agronomic trials
- To develop Biometric techniques for balanced as well as unbalanced data
- To develop early warning system for major pests of different pulse crops
- To manage and administer the Local Area Network (LAN), Internet and Intranet facilities
- To assess present and future needs of information technology at the Institute
- To develop various research, extension and management databases, Data Warehouses, Experts Systems and converting existing databases into on line multi-user information system
- To assist and promote use of the ARIS facilities through human resource development by arranging lectures and training for scientific, technical and administrative staff in the areas of computer application, Data management and office automation
