Identified new varieties of Urdbean and Fieldpea

New varieties of urdbean and fieldpea identified for cultivation during 90th CVRC meeting

Four new varieties of urdbean (Narmada and Dristi) and fieldpea (Shikhar and Arpan) have been identified for cultivation during the 90th meeting of Central Sub-Committee on Crop Standards’ Notification and Release of Varieties for Agricultural Crops.

Narmada and Dristi, urdbean varieties recommended for cultivation in Madhya Pradesh: Urdbean variety Narmada (IPU19-10) has been identified for cultivation in Madhya Pradesh under timely sowing condition (Rainfed; Spring season). The variety has a potential yield of 14.7 q/ha and matures within 74 days. It has attractive black seed colour, medium large seeds (4.87 g/100 seeds) with high protein content (20.27 %), good for dal and highly palatable. The variety is highly resistant to Mungbean Yellow Mosaic Virus and Urdbean Leaf Crinkle Virus. The variety Dristi (IPU17-2) has been identified for cultivation in Madhya Pradesh under timely sowing condition (Rainfed; Spring season). The variety has a potential yield of 13.7 q/ha and matures within 73 days. It has attractive black seed colour, large seeds (4.90 g/100 seeds) with high protein content (22.14 %), good for dal and highly palatable. The variety is highly resistant to Mungbean Yellow Mosaic Virus and Urdbean Leaf Crinkle Virus.

Shikhar and Arpan: High yielding field pea varieties recommended for cultivation in North-Eastern States of India: Two high-yielding field pea varieties i.e. Shikhar (IPFD 19-1) and Arpan (IPFD 19-3) have been developed and recommended by 90th CVRC for cultivation in NEPZ. Shikhar is a dwarf and semi-leafless type and creamish white color seeded variety. It has grain yield potential of 27 q/ha. It is resistant to powdery mildew and moderately resistance to rust disease. It takes 120-125 days to mature and has medium bold seed size (18.0 gm). Arapn is dwarf & leafy type and creamy white seeded variety.  It has grain yield potential of 26 q/ha. It is resistant to powdery mildew disease, ascochyta blight and moderately resistant to rust. It has medium maturity duration with average of 122 days and medium bold seeds (18.55gm).
